A whale of a poem and very interesting as well. What you describe beyond the pier is actually a mind set and with a bit of courage, I have enjoyed what lies beyond those realms. Nicely thought out and well written.

Brooke - That's a beautiful photo of the lighthouses and the pier. You write a very descriptive poem about the love of the sea and watching it from a pier. Nice rhyme and good pace. Charlie

Walking along a pier, I like to watch the waves roll in from miles and miles. The waves become bigger and show their huge waves with lots of white on top of each one. I wonder at the strength the waves have showing their majestic ways.
Another wonderful aspect of the creation from God who is the Master of all things, that we see.

Thinking of taking up deep sea diving then my friend. The deep waters hold so much magnificance. However I prefer to stay on dry land. the odd swimi is the extent of my bravery.
Lovely images of the magic of the sea

There is something magical about the pull of the sea. Adventure, danger, and excitement wait for those brave souls who are brave enough, or dumb enough, depending on your point of view to venture there. Your poem captures that essence and makes us want to join you in a grand sea adventure. It is such a nice poem, and is excellently written. Not a thing to fix or change. I loved this work and the feeling of pure delight it inflicts upon my soul.

Don't forget to take your seasick pills first, if you're going out in that sort of weather ...
Lovely piece, Brooke, it captures that almost wanderlust feeling of looking out to sea very well.
Louise :)

Louise, I suppose a truly bad storm would get to anyone in a small enough boat - but other than that, I'm not really prone to seasickness. Thanks, Brooke :-)

Tess Taylor said in her review of Thomas James' poetry, "They pose the poem - that written artifact of language, meant to be blown through with breath - as some hybrid of life and death, which at once speaks from beyond and is patterned beyond mere speaking." You made me feel that urge to "explore / the secrets of the deep -- " to journey "Beyond the pillars of the pier," "where sailors sail and seagulls fly"
We can only dream sometimes, but the dream may come true. You leave us that positive note. You don't skimp on the vision. It goes beyond the dream to a realm of wonder and beyond the "pillars of the pier."
Your poetic voice is strong from the shoreline out into the vast ocean depths. I want to travel there with you -
Excellent piece of work and heartfelt.

Your poem speaks strongly of how much you love the ocean and how it means a great deal to you.
Those emotions resonate within me.... your poem brings them to the surface.
Very well done.
