Points well taken. Priorities have run amok. We have lost more lives through mass shootings than we've had days in the year...
Polls say 80% of Americans are for stricter gun control laws, yet our elected officials bend their knee to self interest.
The king shall be king. The horses will run...
Nine souls were eradicated and yet again, more rhetoric, no action.
It's not too much to ask. Perhaps the time for asking has come and gone. Our currency is our vote.
There needs to be consequences when politicians "posture" but do not deliver.
We've been lost in apathy.
Time to wake up!

I totally agree with you. What is happening in the US is alarming and very frightening. I can't understand why everyone is so gun crazy. Arguments are resolved with whoever has the biggest gun. Innocent lives are taken because someone has a grudge or is simply in a foul mood. Sorry, but guns DO kill people, and should never be in human hands unless there is a very valid and necessary reason, and there are very few reasons why a gun should ever be necessary. But I think it is too late now, and the gate can't be closed after the horse has bolted. Well written.

I like your contrasts of the pomp and circumstance, the run for the roses, and the mass shootings that occurred this weekend. I hope we don't become some used to the violent occurrings that we stop caring about people dying. I agree that we need to change the gun laws and the culture of violence -- now would be a good time. I've written a poem and notes on the very symbol of freedom, is actually an idol, a sacred cow that demands sacrifice, the 2nd amendment, I've seen the wordings and really is an anachronism. The devil hasn't changed his ways, just subtly adjusted, demanding sacrifice of people, and baby sacrifice also. No, it will continue. America should harken to other western democracies. The sad thing is that even these senseless killings people will get used to -- even expect. Channel 17 news, here in Bakersfield, has a broadcasted running tally of violent murders, year to date. I suppose it's part of the responsibility of the news people to keep us informed. But I swear, near year-end, when we are approaching last year's total ... there is a gaming feeling in the air. "We're two short. We might catch up, though, what with the long weekend ahead." People like to break records.

Well ... sounds like we've aleady eclipsed last year's record. We might have to change the parameters to mass shootings 5 and under, and those over 6.

No, it is not too much to ask for a non-violent culture in our land of the free and the brave!
I do not understand how the elected officials in office don't do more to create a reason for us to go shopping and go to school than to grow up to be violent people who use guns indiscriminately against innocent victims!
This is what I think and feel and I hope we see an end to the violence soon!
