A Rant

The fact remains when guns are outlawed only outlaws will own guns. I was not raised around guns, but my husband was. He was a hunter and he taught our children to be hunters. That is all they ever did with guns. He taught them gun safety and they listened. I don't like guns, won't touch them, but taking guns away from our citizens is a bad idea. That's when we would lose our freedom. We do need a solution. Nancy:)

I agree taking away guns is not the answer. Thank you for reading and reviewing. I appreciate the many stars. Have a blessed day.

I've read numerous "rant" entries over the past few weeks and each newest one I read, seems to be the one I like best.

Yours is no different. This topic is one that my wife and I lament over. We have three grandchildren is public schools and two more starting in the fall.

We worry about them daily since we don't have the opportunity to physically see them daily to know they're safe.

This is a topic with so many variables. GUN CONTROL should be an easy fix, has to be fixed, but probably never will be.

Good agreeable rant!!

This is an interesting rant. One thing you mentioned is the wealthier districts getting more money for their schools. That is true, but those schools are also more likely to be attacked. Poor schools absolutely need more help to teach kids. France has quit publishing the names of those who kill several people, and the number of attacks has dropped. Fifteen minutes of fame is a very persuasive option for those who feel marginalized or are mentally ill.

Wow, what a topic to tackle. I live in Canada, and I don't know what it's like to deal with continual gun violence in schools. I think you're right that the system needs an overhaul. Obviously background checks and limitations on guns help, but mental health and parental accountability are huge. Yes, what do you do with a six-year-old shooter? Obviously they don't understand like an adult does. You raise compelling questions, and advocate for what seem like helpful steps toward a safer society.

This is a topic near to my heart. I have grandchildren in the school system and I worry about how some kid would come with weapons to shoot his classmates. This must stop. Other countries invest much more in each child's welfare than the US. I fully agree with your rant!

The contest states:
The only requirement is that you must end by saying, "Now I feel better."

how does a six-year-old get a gun. (question mark if this is a sentence - or you could reword as how a six-year-old gets a gun)

This is reflected in. teachers' salaries (no period)

Thank you for sharing this rant contest entry with us. Many issues need to be addressed in school shootings for in mass shootings. The six-year-old isn't included in my following statement, however, he should never have had access to a gun in the first place, his parents are at fault. As for the rest of the shootings, from what I read, other people were aware that the shooting were a possibility and did nothing. In at least one of them the authorities were aware and did nothing. Let's hold these people accountable. Good luck with the contest.

This is reflected in. teachers' salaries and resources. (omit the period after 'in')

I know you probably don't feel better, but the prompt requires that your rant end with "Now I feel better."
You raised some interesting points here. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
