I guess I'm okay with worms as long as I don't have to touch them. I'm scared of moths and lighting bugs even though they don't hurt you so I know exactly what you are talking about

Brooke - Ewwwwwwww! Worms. Enjoyed the poem but wished you had written about warthogs or whirlybirds. LOL. Loved it and still don't see how you do it. Keep 'em coming. Charlie.

Great job in incorporating the entire alphabet into describing those slimey critters. I found nothing wrong in this piece. Good job (of course).

Thank you for finding nothing wrong in my dark fantasy about dead creatures - you must have a dark side, too! LOL :-) Brooke

A clever use of words, Brooke,
and well presented.
What is Kin lie mashed?

Altho I am fascinated by their webs,
particular when they're bejewelled
with frost or dew, I really hate spiders.
Would you believe, my youngest son
once had a Tarantula as a pet. I used
to say - you can bring a cat, a dog or
whatever other pet you have, home, but
forget the tarantula.

Regards,
Margaret.

kin lie mashed is my little fantasy that these worms come upon a puddle where their kin/relatives lie smooshed and eviscerated - it is unkind of me and probably did not register in your kind mind since you are not mean-spirited. :-) I have also known people with pet tarantulas - I prefer a kitty cat :-) My son once had a lizard, and we had to buy it live crickets to eat. My daughter had a kitty cat. Sons do present us with challenges! :-) Brooke

I can be mean if I'm pushed too
hard - but can normally talk
    people round.

    tarantula has now gone to
    tarantual heaven, or wherever
    the blessed things go... now
he and his fiancee has two
rats - and altho I was a bit
    stand-offish at first, they are
    such tame little things, with
    little pink fingers and toes,
    and like to be petted.....
    no... I'm not talking about
    my husband... altho he
does like a fuss made of him.

Oh, I best say no more..

Margaret, you were starting to get a bit frisky and risque there! LOL Rats, that's a big step up from tarantulas! LOL

    I've always been frisky, Brooke...
    that's what keeps me going.

Delightful, diverting and dazzling, as usual, Brooke. Your author notes are also charming and comprehensive. Do be aware that some vermians are bookworms, ergo can read! Peter.

If bookworms cannot tell I was not referring to their guts lying in a puddle, they need to read a few more books! LOL
Thank you, Peter, for your most gracious review - I call anyone gracious who calls me dazzling! :-) Brooke

I have dissected earthworms, frogs and dogfish in the course of obtaining A level zoology many years ago.
reply by the author on 27-Oct-2008
Mr Elvidge - my ninth grade biology teacher, made me pith a frog - not dissect it but pith it - I protested, of course, and he made me do it anyway. Had I been in 12 grade, perhaps even 11th, I would have just stood my ground, but I was not quite bold enough by that age. I do not remember every teacher's name, but I remember his because of this. Yes, I'm sure I remember dissecting a worm too - I think I had just repressed that one. Thank you for bringing up these fond memories, Peter. LOL

Wonderful, laugh-inducing jiggly squiggly thoughts! I especially loved the opening, Aargh! And the puddle death reference. Very cute- very funny.

Ellie, I'm glad you laughed - lets me know I'm not the only mean-spirited person here LOL Thanks so much, Brooke :-)

nothing wrong with a warped bit of humor!
Now, if you were writing about how YOU jump all over worms, to inflict death upon the whole lot of them... then I might be concerned.

I'm not getting close enough to one of them to do any harm!!! LOL

A very descriptive work. It reminds me of the things little kids get up to. Ankle deep in mud and squishing bugs. Very vivid use of imagery here.

I really agree that not too many worms will be offended by this work

Enjoyable read - jamar

i hate worms too but when I was a child, 100 years ago, haha I fished and it took me a long time to put the worn on the hook, wonderful poem, flowed wonderfully and structure well from the beginning to the end. thank you for sharing.

I would not hold a worm to put it on a hook if I needed that fish to keep me from starving to death!!! You're a brave woman. Thank you, Brooke :-)

Cute poem very cleverly written to include the entire alphabet. I enjoyed this very much. Just remember, what is one creature's poison may be another's next meal! Best wishes. ray.

Sometimes worms are cute ;) Another great poem with a-z words that are very creative. This reminded me of when my daughter wanted to get grass from the yard to put on her model of a volcano, she pulled a bunch of grass from the ground, roots and all came out and a bunch of worms, scared her so much she doesn't want to pick at the grass anymore, she was 9 yrs old when she did this.

An entertaining and fun poem!

My children both liked the creatures when they were small and could not understand why their mother, usually a kind woman, would not accept the gift of a worm. Not even for my beloved, precious little ones would I touch these vile creatures. LOL Thank you sharing your experience and for your kind review :-) Brooke
