A well painted poetic portrait of a day in a southern Austrailia, done in expressive free verse and the imagery of flora and fauna. Shade and darkness are alive with living creatures. Thanks for sharing.

This is a perfect vision of our countryside in summer.
It exudes heat among the imagery of natural things existing in the extreme dryness of the environment.
I like your free verse style; economical with words, but chunky which allow an image to sit and be mused over, before moving on.
My favourite imagery was of the rosellas adding colour to the dry scene; an occurrence that happens many times even walking in the city.
A most enjoyable read.

Thanks, Mark. In fact I wrote most of this on East Terrace while waiting for my wife to come out from her specialist's appointment.

Such a languid read of summer, your words carefully chosen. Aloud, many lines such as "sheds a swathe of sunburnt skin" are mouth candy, in the case of this poem, sweet molasses. Credulous leaves to catch each tepid breeze, the spectre of life, night wings riding cool currents to sup on blossoms whose eyes shine like Charon's coins- now you've got me going. It really means something that I can feel summer in the midst of winter. Excellent poem that truly shows your craft. I am sorry to not have a six.

Another great poem from you. I truly look forward to your post and am inspired by them. I've been writing more short stories lately than poems but have many stashed for review. I thought this poem flowed smoothly and each verse touched on a different part of your South Austrialian Summer which was a great title and must be a truly beautiful place.

You are welcome and thanks. I just posted "Forever Forty" for the Birthday Bang contest. My first truly erotica story. I doubt there will be more. I just enjoyed the challenge.

Bravo! I could feel the Summer's heat. Are you sure you were not in Louisiana? Very beautifully done. No picture needed here, but it is lovely. You put me right there with you. Exceptional poem. I am glad I had one left.

Wow. Wow. If I could leave the remarks just at that, would you imagine just how mesmerized I am by this amazing free verse? The 'mood' is contagious - there's no other word for it.

I want to repeat that small word (wow), because that is the feeling this poem evokes in me. The imagery is so real, I'm wishing I could have just a half-hour in the scene you describe, because I can feel the heat (and right now we are about to set a record for cold that hasn't been broken since 1979).

Tony, I see that lizard, I feel the 'pain' of that gum tree - all of it, every word is magical. (and as per usual, I am out of sixes...sigh...!!!)

Somebody said Albany Georgia and Albany Australia are on very nearly the same number degrees from the equator. The summers certainly sound alike, with interesting differences in flora and fauna. Excellent free verse.

Tony; I am very impressed with your superb imagery as it was written as though always actually there in the slow sweltering heat of a summer's afternoon in Australia. The imagery was very demonstratively descriptive as was also perfectly expressive. I discovered that the sleepy lizard in the wide-eyed possum were well described in your poem. Thank you for sharing this such great imagination that was truly inventive and distinctly and incredibly ingenious. May the good Lord be with you always Tony.
