I will have to look her up and read about her, Aussie. I love the "clapping hands" and that she was a teacher of ancestral history. I work the weekends (12 hour shifts) so I don't have much time to read and write. I will get with you and your pieces as soon as I'm off. It should be an interesting read.

Brooke, Please Google Kath Walker - poet. Thank you so much, I enjoyed writing a different way because I find it hard not to make a poem rhyme. Blessings, K.

I enjoyed your lovely poem for many reasons: The lines move musically helped by the repetition of "Sticky mud - sucking feet; oppressive heat" - the reader can feel the day's heat and the sticky mud, very descriptive, and I know the sound of squishing feet in wet mud. Also, I love when my mind is opened to spomething I didn't know before. Your poetry, often, is a learning experience for the reader but remains poetry in its best form. Therefore - Six stars!
