Background checks usually take a few minutes. Even in cases where the checks take longer, after three days the purchaser can take possession after three days checked or no.

Private parties at a gun show are NOT required to do a background check.

As soon as the gun shop or pawn shop down the street opens in the morning I can go purchase a gun and walk out the door with it minutes later.

The world your describing, Michael, is the world WE SEEK. It does not exist.

Paddock purchased ALL of his weapons and modifications legally.

THAT IS WRONG. There is no sane argument that says it isn't. IS THERE?

Just to add:

Here in California we have the toughest gun regulations in the country. As a result, we have one of the lowest per capita death by gun rates.

There's a ten day wait between purchase and acquisition of ANY firearm. No weapon that houses more than ten rounds is legal. Concealed weapon permits are STRICT. Felons, many misdemeanors, mentally ill, and others are restricted ... it is highly regulated. A private party is required to sell through a registered gun seller. There are NO under the table or loophole sales allowed.

HOWEVER, we CAN shoot across the border to Arizona or Nevada and pick up whatever we want and no one will be the wiser until AFTER we get caught using it ... after the fact in other words.

So, that is why Federal Regulations make sense. It isn't always a big government argument versus state's rights. There has to be uniformity in some areas. Without Federal regulations, think of what SOME states might still find to be acceptable practices. I won't speak the obvious.

Mikey, although I didn't know exactly what the rules were in California, the idea of how easy it is to get a gun, by going to other states is what I was trying to get at...it has nothing to do with the right to own a gun, just the right of the public to be as safe as possible, and yes federal laws are needed...no where in this country are as many people shot than in Chicago, I hate to keep saying that, yes people used those guns to kill, but most of those guns came from out of state, and gun shows...this isn't fake news, and the innocent people need help...are there criminals using these guns, yes, are they using them in act of anger and rage, yes, again, but even then a life may have been saved if no gun was available..I don't understand why anyone would be against the saving of lives, unless they are just plain stupid..sorry but that's how I feel...

Just Some Thoughts!

So, Michael, what say you? It seems others disagree with your suggestion of year-long waits to obtain clearance to own these weapons.

I find it rather amusing that with all the bravado about patriotism, the same people feel a need to protect themselves from fellow Americans.

Yeah Ingrid, haven't you ever seen a good ole American Chevy Truck with a gun rack across the back, a flag on its dashboard, NRA decal on the windshield, and a bumper sticker that says "Damn right I'm packin' .. I'm American and darn proud of it. Don't mess with me!"

Well if you haven't... then you are quite perceptive.

Hey Emma, you said

"There's a conspiracy, right there. How about this one? All the killings, home invasions, attacks, etc, are all engineered by gun manufacturers and dealers, so they can sell you their wares as protection. "

That's quite the theory, Sark. Are you suggesting that there is a plot afoot by some group of people, serving something evil? Trying to create other groups of people who are so hopeless, so desperate, so drug addled, soulless, hate filled or immoral or so enslaved to sin as to desire to break into people's homes ( illegally, I might add) with the express purpose(s)of either killing human beings/ and or robbing them ....All this in a conspiracy to sell more guns? Hmmmmmm???

That plot sounds kind of familiar to me , except for the idea that I didn't know Lucifer or the Hor' deurvers ( I like that Craig), were big stock holders in major gun manufacturers, those poor wantonly murderous "breakers and enterers" just don't stand a chance against THAT conspiracy.

But, I know, I am only changing the subject when I dare to suggest that everything has spiritual warfare aspects to them.
Hey Craig and Emma
, I am working my way backwards through the comments of this thread. So I imagine when I get all the way back to my last comment a few weeks ago, I probably will have more to say.

Can't quite tell from your post. DJ, but I don't think for one moment that Emma was suggesting this was an actual conspiracy...

I know this Kiwi, I was mostly calling out the typical ill thought out , ( to my viewpoint) gun grabbing, liberal idea that there is a gun quantity problem, rather than a people quality(or spiritual) problem.
