What does a writer do when paperless?

Paperless

by JLR

I grabbed my pen and went to the woods
intending to write and play with words
alas, I trekked many a mile,

and all the while

I felt the warm sun aglow on my face
just being so happy I was enjoying
the knowledge that I had words bumbling
turning over in my thoughts.

Up a small hill and down toward a
flowing and lush green glen,
I pull out my pen and wrote in the air.
Just a couple of words to practice
how they felt un-restricted on the
blue canvas.

Nearing a wandering stream
that flowed into the marshy shadows,
I meandered toward a moss covered rock
and staked my turf to begin my writing.

Achieving a comfortable angle of repose,
I reached into my knapsack to fling open my journal,
aghast, I discovered not a journal nor a sheet of paper
was anywhere to be found.

Not a page, not a sliver of any kind of paper
so, I sat about pondering the story needing told
and deciding to be bold I doffed my sweaty shirt.

Next came off my white t-shirt,
then I grabbed a nearby reed and stirred the tip
in the mud and commenced to scribe the words
in my head onto my shirt.

So, yes, the paper is a resource for writers,
but just the customary manner to record
words, refrains, and a stanza or two,

but without paper, a writer just has to improvise...
