Memories embellished as boy at a circus

Under the Big Tent

by JLR

Sometimes I wish I were a clown
with face painted with a big frown
riding a trike making bell chimes
A clown I wish I were, sometimes.

Under the big tent, people laugh
Bozo hisses all while gaffing
my bright red shirt which was then rent
people laugh under the big tent

Trapeze artists on wires up high
like angels, gravity denied
stars of the show solo artiste
high up on wires, trapeze artists.

Tame lions circle in main ring
clowns tied balloons on a long string
hula dancing like Hawaiians
main ring circle in tame lions
