Me and Billy were escorting our US Marine to the train in New Bedford, MA.
His reprieve from boot camp over, the newly minted warrior was duty bound.
Lloyd was our pal but it was different now.
A uniform fought against our usual easy familiarity.
Suddenly, as the train arrived, a passionate desire to hang on to slippery time engulfed us, and we vowed to meet there again, ten years later, at noon.
We didn't.
