I held the leaf

Listened to the secret of its color

How it gathered orange all summer

Soaking in the sun

Relishing the rays

Becoming heavy with the

Essence of pumpkins and peaches

Tangerines and apricots

Ripening to a persimmon orange.
 

I didn’t witness its flaming descent
But picked it up like a found penny.
