Out of the depths have I cried unto thee my God

Angels

by Cass Carlton

Oh, you angels
Who watch o'er Mankind unceasing.
Oh, you angels
Who walk us unseen perils through
Oh, you angels
Who hear my very thinking
Oh, you angels
Who knew my all before I ever knew.

Sorrow's weight lies heavily upon me
All is lost and futile in my sight
There is no hope for me in all my sadness
No guiding hand to lead me through this night.

Let me feel the softness of your wingtips
And perhaps you might let a tiny gleam
Of radiance betray your blessed presence
With a kindly word I know is not a dream.

Oh, you angels
I know you will not answer
My foolish pleas betray my little worth
Oh, you angels
While in your prayers unceasing
Commend to God this hapless child of Earth

This was written at a time of my life, when all was "dark and comfortless" and all I had to turn to was a faithful cat. My son was a baby and I was isolated from the world The poem came from the prayers I offered up then. My prayers were answered and since then, I have never felt as desperate and abandoned as I did in those sad, lonely days. Artwork is "Hidden Worlds Within Nature" by Regina E.H. Ariel.
