Droughts and flooding rains

Mother Nature

by Aussie

Grey green skies threaten change. Flash of lightning unzips clouds. Willy Willy dances on bone dry plains.

Black as night the skies become, the air grows cold in midday sun.

Goanna races to gum tree high as snake heads for his hole. Kangaroo sniffs dust -laden air. From the west, thunder rumbles.

Baiame has crunched his hammer on mountain range.

Bull ants head to lofty trees as bats wrap themselves in their own rain coats. Cattle and sheep huddle together; spooked by thunder and lightning strikes.

Pitter patter of rain drops growing louder, turning into hail. Smashing, crashing fury whipping trees in wild display of nature's jury. Cracked red earth becomes rivers and streams as black skies fill Mother nature's girth.

Whipping wind dies away, sun breaks through to kiss the day. Rain moves on to quench another needy place.

Water flows; uplifted nature smiling.

150 Words Flash Fiction contest entry

150 words (counted) for flash fiction contest entry. I wrote this through my mind's eye. Not having visited the outback. I guess it could be fiction because I haven't seen it! Australia is a land of many faces, droughts, floods, fires.
Baiame: Aboriginal for the Creator of all living things.
Willy Willy: dust devil often found in the outback. Swirls in constant circles, much like a mini tornado.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
