Love Lost and Love Found

by poetwatch

An angel arrived to visit me,

Kindling a desire
Inside my befuddled brain,
Stimulating memories and stirring sensations
Secluded deep within my soul that I spoke.

"Forgive this forgotten and foolish man
Of even speaking to you. Yet,
Rusty as my memory seems to be

You remind this old rogue
Of a love I once had.
Until I when to war and wandered

Lost in a foreign land.
Only the image of her love I saw
Vividly all those years while in chains.
Even now as I see you I see her
Like a breath of sunshine shared in our
Youth. What is your name, Miss?

Long have I wished to see her
And tell her that she kept me alive
During duress and in damp quarters.
Yet, yesterday is gone. Who are you, my dear?"

In her eyes I saw a spark
Not of anger, but of hope.

"My name is the same as my mother's.
Yet, she wrote about you and how

Depressed she became upon
Reading of your death.
Everyone cried at your funeral,
And then they gave my mother a flag.
Mom lost her will to live... dad. I am
Sarah, your daughter.

Valentine's Poetry contest entry

I don't know if this is what is required for this contest. All I know is that I started to write and this was flowing from my fingers. It is a story in a poem of a prisoner years later meeting his love in his child's eyes. A sad, but many times true meetings.
Reads, "A Kiss For You Lovely Lady In My Dreams" I would have used "Of" but they are "In" my dreams.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
