Safety Santa (2020 Update)

by Mimi Linny

Before he leaves on Christmas Eve
The elves help Santa check
His safety list, not once, but twice
So he’ll be safe and have no wreck!

Now underneath his boots of black,
I’ll bet you didn’t know
That Santa wears a special kind…
They each have one steel toe!

And what do you suppose
That Santa wears beneath his cap?
It’s hard and tough and strong enough
It’s called a Safety hat!

And all those toys inside his sack
Get mighty heavy, so…
Underneath his bright red suit
A back support does go!

And just to play it safe
When down the chimney he does slide,
A harness wrapped around his waist
He keeps close by his side.

And 'cause it's been a crazy year
With Covid 2020
Santa keeps a special box
Of safety masks, a-plenty!
And wears one everywhere he goes
And also keeps his distance
And sanitizes things he's touched
In every single instance!

Now one last thing he checks
Before he rides off in his sleigh...
His safety belt is buckled tight
Now he’ll be on his way

It's Rudolph leading up the team
With built-in Safety light
What's that I hear, it's Santa's cheer…

“Merry Christmas to all
And to all a "SAFE" night!”

Wrote this children's poem about three years ago, but decided to update for 2020 and add an additional stanza knowing that this year Santa, too, has to be Covid safe!
