His Last Trip

I slowly wheeled him home today.
We took the long way 'round.
He watched the world as it passed by,
but never made a sound.

He always loved to be outside,
the sights and sounds he knew.
The birds would seem to call his name
as overhead they flew.

The woodland critters always played
beside him free of fear.
He loved to feed them by his hand
as he would coax them near.

The doctors said to take Dad home
and let him die with pride.
So that's exactly what he'll do
while with his friends outside.
