It is Imperative that You Revive Yourself with Strength

Taking to the Mat

by artemis53

I am tired,
dragged down
and broken
taking to the mat
barely hearing the counting,
not knowing where
I'm at.

But I hear the words surround me.
"Do you know
just where you are,"
urging me to stand up
and jump that wretched bar
to take that brutal beating
in hopes I rise from flame,
quite like that mythic Phoenix
just to do it all

I know my opponent intimately.
I've met him once before.
In darkness he would taunt me
and lead me to 'Death's door.
But I would never bow to 'him'
despite his his angered pleas.
He'd not take me while standing
nor on my bended knees.

It seems he has the best of me
in darkness of this time
perceiving deepest weakness wrought,
upon my life's fine line.

But I will once more stand to him
although, my feet give sway,
slipping on the blood I've pooled
to battle
one more day.

My life's not for the taking
and even if he could,
I'd leave him tired and wasted
a faltering, fragile flame
and leave him on the mat
to squirm
within my raging rain,

running off to hell again
to dry his dampened wings,
but he'll appear,
yet once as planned,
my obstacle ahead,
in fact
to catch my tender point,
a feeling that I dread.

But I will not succumb to him
and take him on once more
locked in mighty struggles
that may take me to
to that floor.

For once again, the game is on
with battling 'til the dawn
and he will know the mat this time
and watch me...
saunter on.
