Return to Sender

by Sharon Meda

During a time when money was tight, we had to cut out all excess spending. My daughter, Colleen, came to me with an envelope she'd received from her grandmother the day before. The flap was crudely sealed with tape, and she had scrawled across the front, 'RETURN TO SENDER.'

"What's this?" I asked.

"I'm saving money on a stamp."

With tears, I hugged her hard. Things got better, but that memory always stuck with me.
