Not Everything is One sided
The Other Side
by doggymad
All too often marriages break down and divorce becomes the only solution. Sadly, no matter where the fault lies, the children suffer. Over the past few years I have spoken at length to a male friend of mine who has opened my eyes to the other side of the story.
This man gave up over fifteen years of his life to raising his children and buying property for them to ensure that their future would be secure. He literally deprived himself of the most basic of comforts to provide them with every opportunity in years to come.
One day he woke up to find that his wife had taken off with his six children with not so much as a goodbye note or explanation. Before he knew what had hit him he received notification that he was liable for maintenance and would have little or no access to his family.
Five years on, he is still waiting for some closure on the whole sorry business. His children don't want to know him and his wife is out to take him for every penny he has. He will be lucky to come out of this with a roof over his head. His health, both mental and physical has taken a battering and his personality has changed beyond recognition.
Normally, I would not presume to comment on situations like this but after forty years of friendship, I know that he is speaking the truth. In this country fathers seem to have little or no rights, and males are not encouraged to stand up to women who abuse them emotionally or otherwise. I believe we all need to look at the bigger picture and seek justice for all.
