Unusual Allhallows Eve

by B.B. Rose

‘Tis Allhallows Eve and I’m out for my stroll,
when out of the night comes a bone-chilling howl.
A wee ballerina, tutu askew,
leads a band of dwarf pirates and demons
who all rush at me screaming, “Who are you?
Where do you come from? Your costume’s so cool!”
“Be gone,” I implore them. Leave me alone.”
But the imps press in --- I flee into the gloom
to the old hilltop graveyard, a derelict ruin,
where, in the frail light of a scythe-bladed moon,
I blunder amongst decaying headstones
and creep past the crumbling, untended crypts.
Then, I stumble upon a wide-open tomb.
Ah, safe at last, I return to my room.
