Autumn Free Verse Poetry Contest Entry

We Wait in Wonder

by Ogden

Autumn
is officially upon us,
but it takes no acumen to notice
she has changed erstwhile responsibilities,
as she and her sisters have grown wont to do.
Summer stubbornly refuses to return from whence she came,
Winter withholds wintry ways, tapping cold feet impatiently,
while fickle Autumn teases in interminable indecision;
And long-awaited Spring resigns herself to carrying on Winter’s work, disappointing young lovers.
