My friend has often told me
though he bears a heavy load;
Just do the things you have to do
and get on down the road.

If you notice on life's speeding horse
that your life becomes a blur,
then slow your steed to a slower speed
where mistakes won't occur.

If your road gets steep and rocky,
pause and take another look.
Perhaps you'll find a way to rip
that page right from your book.

What you have and what you get
should serve you till life ends.
But, anything you may acquire
will not replace your friends.

I think on things he told me,
when I face some daily plight.
Now, in my waning years I know-
He's right, by gosh, he's right.
