The Dentist

by Lulube

When I was little, my mother would drag me
down the hallway to the dentist appointments
I would rather have been dunked in water, really
in church, receiving the Priest's anointments

I don't blame other dentists for the mean one, now old
that instilled my hate and fear for this health skill
I managed a mouth of mercury to 5 molars in gold
Now aging, teeth are breaking, I've heard they just will

My fear of going to dentists has been life-long
I know everyone needs and go, they should do
But my fear, it increased into middle years, strong
Today a senior with dentures; fear's gone and I can chew
