This work has reached the exceptional level
The struggles of a parent

You Never Knew

by nbonner

You can never anticipate
The consequences when you

You didn't know you'd be a parent
For life
Didn't know you could end up paying
A steep price

You can never foresee
The man or woman they'll come
To be

You can never imagine
That it takes so much time, strength
And compassion

You can never know raising a child
Did not come with a pamphlet or
No rules
You never knew you could ruin
Them if you didn't have the right

You never knew the pain you could feel
When they disrespect you
Or the disappointment you would feel
When they drop out of school

You never knew they would watch your
Every move
Or the possibility they could turn out just
Like you

You never knew the heartache you could
When you realized the man or woman they've
Come to be

You never knew

To lay and create should be a love
Not for your own selfish

I always say parenting does not come with a handbook. We as parents do the best we can but I have to say you are never prepared.
