Rhyming Quatrains

How it Started

by Bucketlist

Some three decades ago
When I'd been feeling low
I had the itch just to learn
It came as a call to return

So back to college I went
The money was well spent
English 201 was the source
Creative Writing the course

The professor there I felt
Strange questions he dealt
At us he'd sit there and grin
Sent us into a mental spin

I almost then dropped out
I had some serious doubt
That he was at all sane
But I did go back again

He refused to mow his lawn
He'd tell with a noisy yawn
Because he used to dream
if he did he'd "hear it scream"!

His thoughts were diverse
sometimes even a curse
But all this lead to stories,
Poems, about life's mores

I thought he must be a speck
A card short of a full deck
Yet my fascination did rise
His Ideas opened my eyes

He brought divergent alive
My work not only did survive
Which brings me to you now
Telling the true story of how

Here, a friend my poetry read
Liked it and then to me said
"FS's a writers' site you know
Why don't you give it a go?"

I remember that long ago day
When I decided in class to stay
It led me to the present site
Where I write my story tonight
