Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A letter to Zoe to thank her for her loyalty and love

Farewell my trusted friend

by Possummagic

It's cold and dark
On the chosen day
The bare treed park
Looks old and grey

You wandered around
Sniffing here and there
Dropping to the ground
Without ever a care

Your last days on earth
Were full of laughter and joy
You're aged now but worth
More than money can buy

Our dear canine friend
You are suffering now
And it's time for the end
You must take a bow

We have so many snapshots
Of laughter filled days
You will always be our soft spot
For your endearing ways

Goodbye darling Zoe
Our memories we'll keep
But you'll be pain free, Zoe
As you sleep the dreamless sleep

Zoe was my constant companion whilst my husband was deployed overseas and was loved And treasured by the whole family. She was our second Shepherd to suffer a canine version of MS, so it hit us hard when we had to make the final decision to end her suffering. We still sadly miss her even today, seven years later, which surprises me because it's almost like we are grieving for a person. She was very special. I know we were asked to write to " someone" but to me she was a " someone" a very special "someone".
My letter started as the day opened and I took Zoe out for a last walk around the park. It was a horrid winters day. Then whilst I reminisced, my husband took her to the vet and she was euthanised. So I sat at home and actually journaled this letter to her, to bury with her ashes.
