Life's Compromise

by Delahay

An old house and barn

You once called a farm

Dying dreams, no alarm

Only souls were harmed

The pain and disgust

Of losing one's trust

Dreams turning to dust

An 8n going to rust

When they came to foreclose

You took worn, threadbare clothes

With your dreams that grew old

And went off down the road

They took all that they could

So much more than they should

Could have fought it but would

It have done any good?

It seems the older you get

You wonder more where life went

And all the time that you've spent

Finds you just grown old and bent

All you once knew is gone

There's no longer a home

Seems life lasts too damn long

You're now just skin and bones

Love, life's last retreat

Grew restless, grew feet

Ran off in defeat

Old, bruised and beat

For more than 40 long years

You paid in FICA and tears

Fought for your country for jeers

Should you respect or have fear?

An 8n is an old Ford tractor.
FICA is what Americans pay for Social Security.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
