A different school but still no change

Shame

by kahpot

a new town we moved two years every time
as a policeman, he was dear father of mine
my time was no different in this new place
but smaller it was with all to face
it's school the same with students of pride
I found it hard for somewhere to hide
as it started again with words of unrest
attended I tried but not even my best

would change the time I knew was wrong
the fear I'll take but not for long
as the shame I feel is growing strong

running in me for need or for fun
a natural thing when I was young
a record in time for fun I received
but after that day I needed my speed
black looks from the students I nearly cried
I ran for my life with fear on my side
with every step, I wished I could stay
but nothing I said or wanted to say

would change the time I knew was wrong
the fear I'll take but not for long
as the shame I feel is growing strong

for the run that I loved would stop right, now
as the school and its boys would not allow
the son of a copper to be their best
they chased thru breaks and taunt the rest
the faster I'd run their anger would build
again I stopped but would not yield
that made it clear which made me see
my shame was growing so violently
so in that moment it was up to me

to change the time I knew was wrong
the fear I've taken has been too long
and the shame I feel has grown too strong

I am an Aussie, grew up in the late 50s/early 60s father was a policeman (Copper) in my school years his stations were only one man stations (HIM) so a bit of turbulence at schools with my father locking up their father and the occasional teacher (the law is the LAW)
