In grief we bond with others

Blood Brothers

by RodG

A teasing breeze, a moon-filled sky
this night you chose to linger by

the grave stone with its frosty face
that foots her final resting place.

Your thoughts of her cling silently
like raindrops to a leafless tree,

and tears stream down your sallow cheek
because of words you cannot speak.

I see you wobble, start to sway.
You look confused. I hear you say,

"Oh, Death, you take, but can you give
me any reason yet to live?"

I watch you weep, then see you kneel
and know exactly how you feel.

I've shared your grief, know well the pain
of sorrow that won't end or wane.

At sep'rate graves we stoop, we stare,
blood brothers linked from what we share.
