A variant form of the C14 French Rondel

The Goodnight Kiss

Now is the time to breathe a blessing,
a benison on silken head,
bestowed before she goes to bed;
the merest brush of lips, a kissing
as gentle as a lamb's tail swishing
contentedly, whilst being fed.
There are no sins to be confessing,
the book is closed, the tale is read,
the monster's slain, no more oppressing,
her mother's prayers will keep him dead.
The child is safe with her caressing,
as now with love she breathes her blessing,
a benison on silken head.

Poetry Dances defines the Rondel as being similar to the rondeau poem. The first and second lines repeat in the middle of the poem and at the end. Although, sometimes only the first line repeats at the end.
The rhyme scheme is normally ABba abAB abbaA(B).
I have read other definitions and seen several variants. Among other things, mine slightly alters the rhyme scheme towards the end and it omits the central repetition.
