A Flick in Time

by Ogden

Fear's a proven motivator;
Learn when young, remember later.
Alas, that is not what happened
When it could have been a blessing.

Instead, a spoiled scion became
An adult devoid of prudence,
Lacking vital inhibitions,
The most dangerous man on Earth.

Oh, would there were a way to tweet
A message to the distant past,
What warnings would we want to send
And change the course of history!

Unfortunately for mankind,
Donald was not a lovable child.
Thus, no one cared enough, we know,
To make sure he saw Pinocchio.

NOTES

The first four lines of this poem comprise an appropriate acrostic, and its title a riddle.

Trump's parents had to send him to a military school because of his very bad behavior in school, and he also was uncontrollable at home. His father didn't like him until he learned to toe the line from the disciplinarians at the school. The only person the young Donald felt close to was his older brother, who died at an early age. (Some psychiatrists and psychologists believe his inability to relate to people may explain his obsessive insistence that he is more popular than the polls indicate (they're "fixed," although he quoted them regularly when they favored him) and that the popular vote that he lost to Hillary Clinton in the election, was "rigged").

Trump said, months ago, that people don't change when they get older, and that he is the same as he was as a child.
