The king penguin is a handsome bird
some think that's positively absurd

Why? Because you see it 'flies'
they've not seen it with their eyes

Ah yes, 'flying' underwater it goes
using its flippers as it's toes

The papa acts just like a mother
his different role is like no other

in a harsh, icy, snowy condition
he stands steadfast in his position

shelters the eggs by puffing feathers
to protect against the worst of weathers

He covers the eggs atop his feet
until the hatched chicks he can meet

while mama is off hunting for fish
to bring her mate a welcome dish

This ode is for the penguin male
doing what females' jobs would entail

So the gender role is being reversed
some might say he is so cursed

But just like a mate, also a father
He helps her out with no palavar
