Swan Song

by Leineco

     August strums her parting tune, plucking brazen
     blazoned notes that pirouette to dormant ground;
     coppered leaves brush amber fronds in whirlwind spin.
        December waits, with bated breath, to come back 'round
        as cattails plump and mallards grow their winter down.
