My best friend who I'd love to see value herself more

Friend

by Gypsymooncat

My friend is a jewel
buried under churning seas of doubt
When I see her, I know it is her
I can't do without

To me, she shines like a diamond
but this she doesn't see

She undervalues herself
and can't be convinced
that her very essence
is invaluable

Too often though, her love is spurned
by those whose self hatred burns

And time and again
she picks herself up
kicks off her shoes
and dances on her own

One day her Knight will arrive
with room on his saddle
and she will finally know how it feels
to share that saddle with someone
who knows how to dance

Your Best Friend contest entry

I've been friends with Vickie since the end of 2003. We've visited each other as often as we can, even though she lives in Tasmania, and I'm here on the Mainland. When she leaves, or I do, there are tears all around. We are soul-sisters who came together when we most needed each other, and yet, this very best friend of mine doesn't see her own value. She is like a diamond to me; a treasure to be cherished and kept safe. If only she could find a man who'd see that too, but until she knows her own worth, she'll only keep drawing those who think little of themselves towards her, and sadly, people like that only drag someone down.

Anyway, this is my dedication to a friend who's been with me through thick and thin, even though she's so far away.

Vive la Vickie!
