Yesterday is gone

Yesterday

by Janet Foor

Down dusty roads of yesterday
Where lamps were lit and children fed
A gentle spirit plagued by fear
Walked on the edge where demons tread.

A broken heart, a somber life
A sad and solitary soul
Abandoned, angry without hope
Desiring love to be made whole.

A teller of both truth and lies
Believer in what others say
But all the verities of mind
Cannot bring back her yesterday.

Not sure what all brought these words to mind. I've been reading some lovely nostalgic poems about children growing up. (One I especially enjoyed by Nancy E. Davis). It was a simpler time then. So much has happened since my children were young and I felt relevant in their lives.
