Multiplication and Division

by persevere

Eight wrong (x) eight is sixty four
That cross (x) causing such a furore
Teachers say it means multiply
Perhaps a rhyme would help satisfy
So, I ate and I ate till I was sick on the floor
Eight times eight is sixty four!

' Gisinters' is another puzzlement
Division, symbol : , is what is meant
Eight goes into sixty four
Eight the answer, division law
But oh what confusion when times and division
Come together in the same transmission
There is no symbol to handle this
Better to give the whole thing a miss.

Symbolism writing prompt entry

This should be a fun contest to enter. Write a poem about the symbols used in print, such as question mark , comma, period, etc. and use the symbols you name.( See my contest entry) You can either choose one and write an ode to it or mention three or more in a poem of any kind..
Math symbols are also allowed.

Of course I haven't gone into that BODMAS rule but that is what I am alluding to in the last four lines. Alas my division symbol didn't come out as desired.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
