SoLo

A Clown with a Frown

by fionageorge

Did you hear about SoLo the clown,
who painted the smile on his face upside down?
The Circus Master asked the clown why he had.
SoLo replied, 'It's because I feel sad.'

'Can you tell me why you would be sad?'
the Circus Master asked as he shook his head.
'I am tired of people laughing at me,
it's never the real me that they see.'

'Don't you know you make people forget,
all about wars, sadness, poverty and debt.
They know you wear your smile for their sake,
you make them laugh 'til their bellies ache.'

SoLo thought about that advise for a while,
and quickly replaced his frown with a smile.
He now knew no matter how he felt inside.
To make others feel good, behind his smile he would hide.

SoLo soon discovered how much pleasure and joy,
he brought each day to many a girl and boy.
In the process he found he felt happier too.
So put a smile on your face, it is good for you!

Thank you BrooklynMyra for the use of your image. I had already written this poem, and given its title, when I searched FanArtReview for a suitable picture... and bingo! here was a picture with exactly the same title as my poem! Sooo...I used it.
