Once In A Blue Moon

by Delahay

Good morning, how are you?
Yeah, I'm doing fine
The only thing missing
Is a whole lot of time

Betty's gone now
She got the big "C"
How's Debbie? Sorry
I had no idea

Remember Ernie?
I called a month too late
I had a strange feeling
As he stood by the gate

That's why it's been so long
Since I tried to call
All of this bad news
Is no news at all

How long has it been now
Since they closed down the plant
Some guys found other work
But others still can't

The last time I saw you
They were burying Fred
He was the first on the line
That I heard was dead

That's about all I know
Call me back real soon
Once in a while becomes
Once in a blue moon

New: I was thinking about this when I heard someone I worked with for years had died. I was thinking about turning it into a song.
The saying "once in a blue moon" is fairly common in the southern U.S. It refers to something that doesn't happen very often. I don't know why it is called blue but, every so often, two full moons occur in the same month and the second one is called a blue moon.
