Faith keeps us going

A chapter in the book The Heart of Poetry

One more time

by Carolyn 'Deaton' Stephens

The old gentleman had fished
most days of his life
His family once large
now just he and his wife

His boat seemed to know
where his net ought to fall
But lately dear Lord
his catch had been small

He threw out the net
'til his tired arms were spent
He pulled the net in
and found it was rent

Shadows were falling
as the last line he sewed
He must take in fishes
So gently he rowed

He threw one more time
From the opposite side
and felt from the weight
the movement of tide

He pulled and he heaved
hauled the net in the boat
so heavy with fish
not sure he would float

He remembered the Lord
and the time that He said
Have faith my child
You all will be fed

Turning his boat toward home
He saw a dim light
Thanks to the Lord
They would eat well tonight

Faith Poetry Contest contest entry

Rhyming quatrains, I am not as concerned with the perfection of the poem as I am about the message. In life we very often want to give up, have Faith, keep giving it your best. Reference, KJV, Revelation 2:10.... Be faithful until death and I will give you a crown of life.
