In Session: Planning For Humans

by michaelcahill

This meeting's called to order, all are here.
Even Fritz the cat's deigned a twitching ear.
"The little one is walking; we must plan
a course of action … we must take a stand!"

"I saw him in the corner by the stairs.
His legs were trembling as though unaware.
He gripped the rail and pulled himself along
and then he let it go and he stood strong.

As you all know, I've been through this before.
My crooked tail reminds--these kids are chores!"
Debbie Dove cooed, "Sad you cannot soar,
those sticky hands from far I while adore!"

Mister Rover'd been the first to hear the roar
when Master Tommy suddenly arose
from floor to dashing, tumbling--even more;
and somehow, Tommy always found dog toes.

He'd stomp upon them, falling all around
and then he'd grab that tail to stand his ground.
But Rover found it worth it for the love
they shared--a bond like fingers in a glove.

Now, Fritz, aloof, made out like she endured.
She often thought that dog to be a fool,
a clumsy oaf with dirty unkempt fur
and constant slobber from a sea of drool!

But deep inside she loved them all though she
would never show the slightest sense of care.
It wasn't dignified for her, you see,
she had her haughty ways--all were aware.

This new one now begins to walk, then love
will follow; they know it will be shared.
But such a price for, cats and dogs and doves--
'twill be worth it though; no one asked be spared.

Opinions of each other set aside
for love of Tommy, they would all abide.
They'd suffer their dull housemates … truth be told--
pretending to disdain though all were gold.
