He lurks inside us all!

The Candy Monster

by RodG

Each Halloween I'm terrified
because a monster lurks near by.
As soon as I've a bulging bag,
he'll claw at me and make me cry.

He'll tease my tummy till it growls
and then he'll make my sweet tooth roar.
He'll nag and goad until I spill
my loot upon the bedroom floor.

His eyes will gleam, his mouth will drool.
"Let's eat those goodies now!" he'll say.
"Those choc'late bars look yummy, yes?
Eight Musketeers, a Milky Way!"

We'll chomp down all the candy corn,
the jelly beans, the Tootsie Rolls,
the Reese's Pieces, Twizzlers, too,
and then we'll munch the donut holes.

And when my bloated belly aches,
his grin's the meanest ever seen.
"Ah, kid, ya love me. Yes, you do!
I'll see ya, pal, next Halloween."
