Inside the mind of a 6 year old with ADHD

Did I mess up again?

by Melspoems

"Two, four, six," oh wow, look!
That looks like a really cool book,
I'll ask my mummy, oh, no, wait ...
What comes next? That's right it's
"Eight."

That was a close one,
nearly in trouble again
and that's never fun.
Where was I? oh, um ...
"Ten?"

Teacher's frowning, oh no, what now?
Did I mess up again somehow?
I'm pretty sure I said it right
just like I practiced lots last night.

I hate it when I do things wrong
and people frown or laugh at me.
I really don't mean to take so long.
I'm trying hard. Why can't they see?

ADHD Awareness writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
October is ADHD awareness month, so let's help spread awareness through poetry!!
Write a poem of any style that helps others understand more about the challenges and/or benefits of having ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)

aabb, abab, aabb, abab
In my accent "again" and "ten" do rhyme, I realise they might not if "again" is said correctly but ... they do for me :)
The chaotic and inconstant rhythm in the first half is symbollic of how the mind of someone with ADHD works, thoughts don't always flow smoothly.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
