Bone cancer takes its toll
Debilitating pain

Sleep is broken by voices , one complaining , the other pacifying. The nightly dose of morphine is being administered. I doze fitfully.
The night nurse departs after changing my husband.
I encourage my patient to a bite size portion of breakfast. A nutritional supplement follows. He holds my hand and summons a smile.
The day care giver arrives. I skype an update to family abroad. I answer calls from concerned friends.
Contemplation at a small bird sanctuary nearby restores my soul.
Lunch, an afternoon nap and often a pal to tea.
I welcome the night nurse back.
