When Mortal Life Drops Its Facade

by w.j.debi

The first step seems so very odd
yet so familiar all the same.
When mortal life drops its facade

there's only love that I can claim.
I reach to touch your lovely face
and softly whisper your sweet name.

But somehow it's another place--
You don't respond to touch or call.
My presence seems an empty space;

physically, I'm not there at all.
Still, heart to heart you sense I'm near;
you smile at good times you recall.

Please don't count life by day or year
and not by boundaries we can trace.
For when your moment comes, my dear,

you'll see my smile and we'll embrace.
