The Spoils of War

The Spoils of War
                                                  by michael cahill

A babe absorbs despair at birth, with war
more holy than her smile. With fervent cries,
"It's God's decree!", and innocence? A chore.
When love is lost, the cause is naught but lies.

With devil's lips, warped words demand the rights
to God and land as sacred truth exposed.
The deed is cast in blood, until the fight
results in death to every voice opposed.

But heaven's streets have not one soul that kills
in heaven's name. In truth all anger's lost
within a realm where purity instills
that every heart is loved and there's no cost.

When mongering of war is all you sell;
you'll find familiar company in hell.

I looked at a lot of horrific and depressing shots of war. I decided that a picture of how it should be would be more appropriate. How could a sane mind not seek that for their children?

I think that this is actually pretty close to iambic pentameter. I'm getting better. Always open to HELP!!!!
