A His Thoughts/Her Thoughts Double Sonnet
Ships That Pass In The Light
by Marillion
1-His thoughts The weather's April-bright; it's warm today, a bit unusual for January. It's perfect, though, to sit at this café to let her tell me why she'll never marry. I must agree, she's really thought it out, so I'm uncertain of a good rebuttal; but, being passionate, I'll proudly tout the fact that, after sex, I love to cuddle; I play guitar—can't sing, but I can write a bit of rhyming, metered poetry, and though my armor's rusty, I'm a knight who still applies the art of chivalry. I'd better hurry up; the check's arrived. I wonder if, as suitor, I've survived? 2-Her thoughts It's pretty mild today, but I preferred to stay at home. I'd rather be in bed, and if I hear another freaking word about the two of us, and if I'll wed... Well, I'll express my thoughts to him again in yet another effort to convince this foolish man he'd take it on the chin. I wonder if he saw me smirk and wince when he was bragging that he plays guitar and writes a little (ha! a lot) of verse? And cuddling? God, he'll never get that far. What's with these guys? They're only getting worse. I think I’ll quit. That's it. I'm changing teams. It's time to find the woman of my dreams. |
