Cast in the shadows of darkness
My soul lies bare
My mind twists reality
Illogical thoughts blacken my night
Evoking
Horrid dreams
Of scream and tragedy
Where ghosts of fear
Awaken my dread
And I am alone

People wander
What is their cause
People stray
What is their reality
Does their spirit soar
With happiness
Of beloved memories
And accomplished dreams
Do their eyes glow in delight
And their tomorrows
Are they filled with love
Do they share the tenderness
Of sacred intimacy
Beating hearts
Entwined in symphony
The gospel of God's divine exuberance

I have been alive
A sponge without a soul
Vacant thoughts
Emotions awry
Betrayed by what is
Betrayed by what isn't
I have run
I have hidden

I have looked for isolation
And found darkness
Salvation betrays me

Time marches in cadence
The sun beams bright
The air brings warmth
And life is renewed
There are flowers
Golden with smell
Breathtaking in beauty
Bountiful in harvest
And children
So eager to play
So eager to laugh
They excite
They stimulate
They give hope
Of continuance
And unimaginable joy
Of a wonderful world
Of a wonderful tomorrow

A new day must begin
And I am awakened
To the dawn of a new destiny

Where was my folly
What was my sin
Did goodness create tragedy
