A chapter in the book Dear Lexi

Lexi's First Time at Open Gym

by Rdfrdmom2

This book is for Lexi to have memories of her childhood from her Nanny's perspective.
Lexi’s first time in the gym
        bouncing on a trampoline
pigtails flying in the air
        like none I’ve ever seen

rolling down a thirty-foot mat
mommy brought you here for that?

Could it be those ten foot beams
just weren’t as wide as they first seemed?

Suddenly in a giant ball
as someone rolled you ‘round the hall

the tumbling slide looked like a treat
as you went down, butt over feet

on the balance beam, you hit your stride
quickly moving people from your side

and who taught you how to be coy
while you are playing with a boy?

Before I knew it, you were in the pit
afterwards, it was time to quit

I know you had a really good time
making the experience worth every dime

On August 16th, Cindy & I took Lexi to open gym. It was obvious she had paid more attention to the Olympics than any of us thought as she wanted to get on everything there, no matter the size. The girl had no fear. I finally sat down and just began writing what I saw. A special thanks to DianeBlack for the use of "Having fun!" which was the closest picture I could find for this piece. I hope to put in a picture of Lexi at the gym soon. Thanks for reading. Love, jan
