2AM again and I stare
at life's expanse beyond exhaust, these years
are wearing me. I've exhibited
the reality of dreams unfulfilled,
a man without tales,
indifferent.
I light a cigarette
watching the embers fall, flickering
in the Nevada wind; inevitably
they fade as youthful ego
cedes to honesty.
No one deserves anything
without earning.
The pendulum swings
across an apathetic existence -
So strong, now tepid
as the wanderlust roaming
of mislaid desires replaced
with stagnation; the spirit hungers
once more.
Sleepless, yearning
for a taste of prior passion, seeking
those past convictions which drove
my words, composed
by ideals lost and visions forgone
of a young man's world.
