By Day I Wear A Mask

by sweetwoodjax

By day I wear a perfect mask
that hides my true intentions.
To the world, I am a hero
that can do no wrong.

I hide behind a mask of
goodness and philanthropy.
Church members greet me
and invite me in their midst.

By day, I am well liked
and admired for my work.
Dedication to my family
completes the facade I have
perfected over the years.

But when darkness falls, my
evil heart comes out and
everyone fears me. When the
lights go out, lock your doors
because I'm thinking you will
be my next victim.

When the sirens break the
silence of the night, you
will know I have struck again,
for I am evil personified.

Sleep well, my love, for we
shall meet soon and you will
die with my name on your lips.

Don't ask me where this came from. It is not my usual genre. Free verse prose. Thank you to imagecollector for great picture that inspired.
